On 26 February 2025, a parliamentary evening was held at the Leibnizhaus in Hanover, where the L3S research centre presented its research on artificial intelligence to parliamentarians and selected guests from administration and industry.
After a welcome by Dr Johannes Winter, Science Manager at L3S, Lower Saxony's Minister of Science, Falko Mohrs, gave a welcoming speech in which he highlighted the importance of L3S's AI-related research for Lower Saxony as a centre of science. This was followed by two specialist presentations by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Neidl (Managing Director of L3S) and Prof. Dr. Bodo Rosenhahn. The subsequent discussion was led by Prof. Dr. Marius Lindauer, who brought two other members of L3S, Prof. Dr. Thomas Seel and Prof. Dr. Margrit Seckelmann, into the debate. The range of topics covered was wide, from image recognition processes to neural networks and green energy to data protection and copyright.
Over drinks and snacks, the parliamentarians were then able to learn about individual projects, which were presented to them in more detail on posters. Among them was a poster for the Tenacity project, which dealt with the legal and ethical limits of using AI in the fight against terrorism. This was presented by Dr Iheyani Nkwanko and Prof. Dr Margrit Seckelmann.
The evening ended with positive impressions from the numerous discussions about ‘AI made in Lower Saxony’. We would like to thank the L3S, namely Dr Johannes Winter and Susanne Oetzmann, for the excellent organisation of the event.
