New article by Professor Dornis in the November issue of GRUR

The training of AI models is increasingly based on artificially produced information, so-called synthetic data. The investments required to generate these databases raise questions about a protection under intellectual property and/or unfair competition law. A look at the technical and economic foundations of this kind of data synthesis suggests a remeasurement of the boundaries between European database protection and national unfair competition law.
