The establishment of Secure Digital Identities (SDI) opens up new opportunities in the area of planning and approval procedures to make the interaction between a large number of public administrations and, where applicable, economic actors significantly more efficient. The new technological possibilities correspond to current changes in planning and building law. Amendments and extensions primarily concern the possibilities for digitally networked collaboration between various actors on the basis of corresponding standards and new technical artefacts such as digital plans and/or digital building and/or city and landscape models. Building on many years of research and pilot projects at national and European level, and inspired by international examples, an increasing number of practical projects can also be identified in Germany that use Building Information Modelling (BIM) to achieve integrated planning and approval processes incorporating all relevant data relating to a building.
Together with civil engineer Dr Judith Fauth (Technical University of Munich), IT and regional planner Marco Brunzel (HWR Berlin) and Dr Marc Stauch, Prof. Dr Margrit Seckelmann has addressed the topic of Building Information Modelling in the anthology ‘Digitale Identitäten und Nachweise’ (Digital Identities and Verification).
